One of my favorite elementary school songs was the "I'm Hungry" song. It was sung by three groups: the father bear, mother bear and baby bear.
It went like this:
Father Bear: I'm hungry. Very hungry. I'm empty, inside.
Baby Bear would then join in.
Father Bear: I'm hungry. Very hungry. I'm empty, inside.
Baby Bear (repeating father bear right after): I'm hungry. Very hungry. I'm empty, inside.
Mother bear then joins in
Mother bear: I'm cooking in the kitchen, I'm cooking in the kitchen, I'm cooking in the kitchen for father bear. I'm cooking in the kitchen, I'm cooking in the kitchen, I'm cooking in the kitchen for baby bear.
Anyone else remember this song? It all got sung at once and it was really fun. I would sing it whenever I was hungry!
Needless to say, Finley is LOVING cooking in her kitchen. Her new pot set arrived yesterday and she couldn't be having more fun with it if she tried. She loves to stir with the spoon, add food to the pans and move them all around. It is such a treat to get to play with her. I am not ready to send her kitchen to her room just yet.

Hi, I stumbled upon this page when I searched Google for the same song you wrote down "I'm hungry very hungry I'm empty inside." Apparently it seems that this is not a widely known song as I found no other searches of it, but this is one of the few songs that got stuck in my head during childhood, that I still remember it clearly after all these years. If you learned this song in your elementary school, perhaps you and I graduated from the same school? Did you attend elementary school in Ohio, or perhaps New Jersey?
I went to school in Maryland. I hadn't found it via search either!
Yes!! I did go to elementary school in Ohio!! Which school??
I learned this chant in a class in college in Ohio and used it teaching, also in Ohio. Fast forward 30 years and I am now teaching in Wisconsin and forgot the words so was googling it and yours is the only thing that came up. When I learned it, there was another part...it was a three part chant. It also had nothing to do with bears. The "I'm hungry part was right" and there was a "cooking in the kitchen" part, but not a papa bear part. There was also a "me too" line in there.
My experience with the chant was in an infants' class in the UK. That was more than twenty years ago! I have Googled it every few years. Happy to find folks who enjoyed it as well.
+1 for learning this in my elementary school (Lincoln, Nebraska, USA in the late 80's/early 90's). I've been going through some old videos and need to transcribe the whole lyrics. I am shocked nobody has done this yet.
