Grandad headed out to the Harley Davidson Museum while Finley, Grammy and I headed to the Children's Museum. I think we definitely got the better end of that deal. There was even a Harley Davidson that you could ride at the Children's Museum, so it sounds like Grandad could have come with us. They had a little town like our museum, but there was a Post Office within it and mailboxes at each of the locations. Finley went crazy for sorting and delivering the mail. I think she touched nearly every piece of mail in the museum. We headed over to the Milwaukee Market for some lunch, then it was off to the train station to return to Chicago. We got checked in and walked over to Millennium Park. Finley loved "Cloudgate" aka The Bean. She really wanted to climb it!
We took the Hiawatha train up to Milwaukee to spend a couple days exploring the town. We walked along the River Walk over to the lake during the afternoon. Finley had a blast dancing and running around the art museum area. We had dinner along the river, but had to move inside because it got a bit too chilly once the sun went down. On the walk home, Grandad and Finley met the Fonz...ay!
It was cool and overcast, but that didn't stop us from visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo for the day. Finley was super excited to see the bats in the zoo, just like her Batty from Arches National Park. She was also a big fan of the meerkats, giraffes and the stinky rhinos. Finley crawled into the bear log at just the right time. A black bear sauntered over and sat right down at the glass to visit with her. Her most favorite animal of the day was the polar bears, mainly because we don't have any in the Houston Zoo, so it is such a special treat to see the polar bears swimming around. Finley selected a new stuffed polar bear from the gift shop who she name "Poley." Poley gets along with all her animals and she loves him!
We did a bit of walking around in the morning in order to get hungry for our big lunch at the famous Carmine's. Clifton took me to Carmine's on my first ever trip to Chicago and we return every time we are in the city. Finley called her fettucine alfredo "the best pasta ever!" It was rainy and coolish out, so we decided to spend the afternoon at the Field Museum. The museum was beyond fun for Finley, her favorite exhibit was in the children's area where she was able to pick corn, she had the best time running around with her corn basket and harvesting the corn. She also so lots of dinosaurs, animals and even Egyptian mummies! The most famous inhabitant of the museum is "Sue" the T-Rex.
It was a big day in Chicago! We started the day at the American Girl store where Finley selected a new doll. After that we had lunch at the famous Billy Goat Tavern so Finley could try their cheeseburgers that her daddy had shown her on SNL. After lunch we took a lake and architectural boat tour all around Chicago. Finley had so much fun. We then headed over to Navy Pier for some rides and ice cream. Finley was so excited to ride on the dragon at the carousel, just like the circus!
